The Community Social Services Unit (CSSU)

The Community Social Services Unit was established in February 2012 to strengthen the Department of Social Services and Gender Affairs by improving its monitoring and evaluation capability, thereby increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of social services intervention. The Community Social Services Unit strives to enhance the quality of life for clients through increased access to an effective social services delivery system. The unit also endeavours to provide a supportive environment for clients to effectively resolve individuals, groups and family problems, as well as facilitate the empowerment of its clients for sustained self-sufficiency. In increasing the quality of access to social services delivery, the unit undertakes to reduce major threats to the social well-being of vulnerable and disadvantaged Tobagonian individuals, families and communities, especially those most in need.

Aims of the CSSU


The aims of the Community Social Services Unit are:

  • To enhance the quality of life for clients through increased access to an effective social services delivery system.
  • To provide a supportive environment for clients to effectively resolve individual and family problems.
  • To be an agency that facilitates the empowerment of its clients for sustained self-sufficiency
  • To promote healthy and productive individuals, families and communities by addressing their social and economic needs.
  • To be the leading agency in the delivery of social services responding in a timely manner to the needs of all clients.
  • To sensitise the public to various services offered by Department of Social Services on an ongoing basis.
  • To advance collaborative effort between the department of Social Services between the Department and public, private and civil society organisations.
  • To function as the critical agent of social change and policy through the development and formulation of research activities


Objectives of the CSSU

The objectives of The Community Social Services Unit are to:

  • Reduce the major threats to the social well-being of Tobagonians.
  • Enhance the ability of the Social Services system to effectively respond to social problems, including poverty challenges.
  • Increase the access of Social Services system to effectively respond to social problems, including poverty challenges.
  • Enhance the capacity and productivity of the social and behavioural research component.
  • Improve the quality of Social Services delivery.
  • Improve the stability and Social development of children and youth.
  • Achieve excellence in management practices.


Vision

The vision of the Community Social Service Unit is to be the leading agency in the delivery of social services, responding in a timely and cost effective manner to the needs of all clients.

Mission

To increase the ease of access to social services.

To facilitate the empowerment of clients for sustained self-sufficiency; promoting healthy and productive individuals, families and by extension, communities that can treat with their own economic and social development needs.

To provide a supportive environment for the resolution of individual and family problems and challenges

To keep the public updated and aware of all services including new and emerging programs.

To liaise, interface and collaborate with all agencies and stake holders; governmental, NGO, CBO, private, clerical, pastoral and civil society organisations.

To develop, formulate and execute relevant research initiatives that would inform and underpin meaningful and ongoing social change.
